Fishing & Tides
Wyndham offers some of Australia’s finest fishing with a variety of abundant waterways to explore. Tidal estuaries, mud flats, and mangrove lined creeks deliver a range of species.
It is still a fairly well-kept secret and due to its remoteness you rarely have to share the waters with other boats. There are also a number of excellent land-based fishing spots for those travelling without a boat.
Wyndham is renowned for its rewarding fishing conditions where the salt water Barramundi can be caught all year round.
The award winning recreational fishing jetty ‘Anthon’s Landing’ built at the port and officially opened in February 2012, provides a safe fishing spot for the whole family.
A 20 km drive down the King River Road will lead you to ideal land based fishing spots on the grassy banks of the King River. A little further down the road will lead you to ‘Diggers
Rest Station’. At Digger’s Rest Station you will find some great fishing spots and spectacular scenery to boot. Whether you are staying in their accommodation at the homestead or enjoying a secluded bush camping site, the fishing opportunities are at your door step.
Barramundi are more likely to be caught during the warmer months of September through to late May when the water temperature is higher and the Barramundi more active, however Barramundi can still be caught all year round. Other species such as Northern Mulloway, Fingermark, Threadfin Salmon, Mangrove Jack are on the bite throughout the year and are beautiful eating fish & prized sportfish.
Tides around the Cambridge Gulf can reach up to 8.3m of movement.
Fishing Licenses are required in Western Australia if fishing from Boat.
Licenses are also required for a throw net in the Kimberley.
